Having failed to break into the first team at First Division Everton, Dan Gordon fared only slightly better at Southampton, where he had six Southern League outings, deputising for George Molyneux at left-back. So, having helped the Reserves to win the 1905 Hampshire Senior Cup, he left and contrived to play, over the next six seasons, at five clubs – two of the Scottish First Division, followed by three in the Football League’s Division II – at most of which he made the first team. After which, he returned to The Dell, to play a dozen times for a struggling side, before dropping into the Southern League’s Second Division for Luton’s promotion season and then winding down at Pontypridd.
