The two Gandy brothers, George and Alfred, played in the Young Men’s first match in November 1885. George would never to get to play in a competitive game for the club, but would chair its committee until the formation of the Limited Company in 1897. Meanwhile, Alfred played in all six matches – in five different positions – as the team won the Hants Junior Cup at the first attempt in 1888. He soon retired after that and continued to work locally as a tinsmith.
