Formerly a coalmine-loader playing local football in Derbyshire, Wally Radford spent a season with Wolves, during which he played twice in the First Division. He got off to a good start at Southampton, featuring in the Southern League side, mainly at centre-forward, for the first four games. But then he was out of contention until he re-appeared in March, for a final flurry, which included a couple of goals, at inside-left or centre-forward.

He thereupon returned to Molineux, where he resurrected his career. Wolves, now in Division II, won the FA Cup in his first season back, with Wally scoring in their 2-0 semi-final win v Southampton. After two more seasons with them, he wound down with Southport Central in the Lancashire Combination.In 1919, he became a referee in the Erewash Amateur League in Derbyshire, whence he progressed to the Football League’s list. In the 1939 registration exercise carried out by the government he described his occupations as a “driller/iron worker” in Pye Bridge, the place of his birth.
