A month after turning out, on loan, for Fleet Town in the Southern League, Russell Watkinson was signing autographs prior to making his debut in the Premiership for Southampton. But almost as quickly as he had arrived on the scene, he departed.
He was a tall, strong-running forward,
but his career in League football spanned just a Dell fortnight, as he failed to make Millwall’s first team when he went there on loan. But then, having gone non-league, he reappeared at The Dell in 1999, when playing in the Hampshire Senior Cup Final for Isthmian League Aldershot.
