Romain Gasmi’s season on loan at Southampton was sandwiched between spells with four French clubs. His only substantial involvement in France was with Strasbourg, from whom he arrived at St Mary’s soon after his team-mate, Morgan Schneiderlin. A clever, jinking midfielder of Algerian descent, Romain made only a handful of first-team appearances as a substitute, but captained the Reserves towards the end of his stay. After which, he failed to establish himself back in France, but found a niche in Thailand’s First Division.
