Replacing Rickie Lambert (twice) and Lee Barnard from the bench was the extent of Nicholas Bignall’s career at Southampton. He had been brought in as striker-cover on a one-month loan, soon after Nigel Adkins’s arrival, having found games for his home-town club extremely scarce, despite being a prolific scorer for their Academy side. When he joined Wycombe, his last league side in October 2011, he was still only 21, yet it was his eighth loan-move, in three years. Since being released by Reading he started on a long career on the non-league circuit which included two spells at Basingstoke.
