Juan Larios progressed through various Spanish Academies before arriving at Manchester City, initially playing for their U18 side. Two years later he joined Southampton for a fee reported to be £6m. Head of recruitment at St Marys then was Joe Shields who had held a similar position at City and the diminutive full-back was one of several young players who made the journey to the south coast from Manchester at the time. Manager Ralph Hasenhuttl was pleased to acquire the young Spaniard’s positional versatility as he could play both down the right and left flanks, but both manager and player were to be disappointed. A series of injuries meant Larios’s opportunities were far and few between while the years he spent at St Mary’s were turbulent to say the least. He became a bit of a a forgotten figure and after two loan moves during the 2025-26 season his contract with the club was mutially terminated and he made a permanent move into the second tier of Spanish football with Eldense. Shortly after his move Lionel Messi became the owner of his new club.
