Signed on the closing-day of the 2011 January transfer window, Jonathan Forte was well known to manager Nigel Adkins, who had brought him to Scunthorpe in 2007. The owner of two Barbados caps, Jonathan came with a reputation for power and pace:

“lightning quick”, according to Adkins.

Used mainly as a substitute and often played wide, he made a priceless contribution to the run-in to promotion, in a six-pointer v MK Dons, coming off the bench to score twice in as many minutes, to spark a crucial come-back.

But that was as good as it got. His appearances, the following season, were limited to four League Cup-ties and to coming on once, as sub, in the Championship, sandwiched between loan-spells. In March 2012, Jonathan scored a hat-trick for Notts County, to become the first Saint to achieve that feat while out on loan. In the final two years of his contract, Jonathan did not get near the first team and he left when his contract was up to join Oldham. Permanent moves to Notts County and Exeter followed before in August 2019 he announced his retirement due to a persistent knee injury.
