Despite the odd regular spell, Jack Eastham had averaged only a dozen Football League appearances per season in his six years at Blackburn and Glossop. He would improve upon that record at The Dell, where he developed into one of Southampton’s finest full-backs of the Southern League era.

Robust and fearless,

his sterling contribution was acknowledged by the granting of a benefit match against Portsmouth in September 1911. Retiring to the Blackburn area at the end of that season, he later became a publican in the Preston and Blackpool areas. When he died in 1932, he was the licensee at the Boars Head Hotel in Stalybridge.
