Signed for £10 from fellow-Southern Leaguers, Bristol Rovers, Herbert Parsons would never get to play in that League for the Saints.

A well-built left-winger, felt by to Echo to have “an intelligent concept of his duties on the field”,

Herbert was nevertheless released after but two games in the Southern Alliance. The following month, he sailed for Canada. But hopes of a new life in Winnipeg were set back by the Great War, which brought him back to Europe with the 8th Canadians. In October 1916, Sergeant Herbert Parsons lost the use of his right arm in injuries incurred on the Somme. After convalescing in Uxbridge, he returned to Winnipeg, but came back to England in 1919. In 1939 he was living in Warminster but was said to be “incapacitated” with his WW1 injuries.
