Harrison Fenwick was part of a southward exodus – in his case from the Tyneside shipyards – who came to increase the war-time output of the shipyards of Harland and Wolff.

One of the better footballers in that expanding workforce, he helped the yard’s team to win the South Hants War League in 1919.

Then, having guested once for Southampton, he signed pro forms for them in April 1919. While continuing to work in the shipyards, he became a Southern League regular, mainly at right-half, for the first two months of the 1919-20 season. But then his health failed him, his contract was cancelled at his request and he returned north to work as a boilermaker in the Armstrong & Whitworth Shipyard in Walker. He re-emerged in League football four years later, for a spell with Queens Park Rangers in Division III(S). After retiring from football, back on Tyneside, he worked in coal-mining.
