An Army player stationed at North Camp, Farnborough, Sgt Inglis was loaned to the Saints by the Argyle & Sutherland Highlanders, for the last game of the 1895-96 season. He performed well enough at left-half in a 4-0 win, but this was a one-off and his next involvement with St Mary’s would be playing against them for the Highlanders. The following year, his regiment was in India, engaged in the North-West Frontier campaign, during which George died at the Boya troop-station.
