A fisherman by trade, George Brown had won Dorset county honors before arriving at The Dell as an amateur in March 1910.
A tall, weighty, muscular full-back,
he acquitted himself well in his two games and, although he was considered up to scratch, George decided to revert to his local football and fishing. His playing career peaked with an unsuccessful amateur international trial in January 1911. He eventually gave up the sea and became a shift foreman at a Gas and Water Company.
