A Danish international full-back Elias Jelert arrived at St Mary’s on loan with talk of a possible permanent deal at the season’s conclusion. His pedigree was impressive, having won two League titles with Copenhagen and then a League and Cup double in Istanbul. But during his year as a Southampton player injury initiallly stymied his progress and when James Bree was successfully reintergrated into the team opportunities to shine became even more infrequent. Whether or not the club had an option or not became irrevelant and he returned to Turkey.
