Born in France to parents of Congolese descent, Dan Nlundulu moved to England with his family in 2008 when his elder brother Gaël signed for Portsmouth. As a young teenager he was on Chelsea’s books but soon joined the Academy at Southampton and by 2020 was given a taste of Premier League football by Ralph Hasenhuttl. The stats will tell you that he duly made 12 appearances playing in the Saints forward line that season but unfortunately for Dan they all came as a substitute with his only start that year coming in a FA Cup-tie v Shrewsbury when he also scored his only Saints goal.

He extended his contract that summer and immediately made a loan move to Lincoln, the first of his three loan clubs. In the summer of 2023, without ever adding to his 2020-21 appearances, he joined the third, Bolton Wanderers on a permanent basis, with the local newspaper, The Bolton News claiming there had been a six-figure fee involved.
