A local, right-sided forward, Charles Ball was presented with his first senior chance on Christmas Day 1900 in a Western League encounter versus Swindon and celebrated with a 3-0 victory. An ever-present for the Reserves in their Hampshire League fixtures that season, he was only given two more senior games, also in the Western League, but both were lost and he severed ties with the club in the close season. In the 1939 mini census he registered as a wholesale grocery buyer in Southampton.
