Introduced to the St Mary’s first team in September 1891, in a friendly against Reading, Arthur Mulford made his competitive debut the following month, at inside-left in the Saints’ first-ever FA Cup-tie. e would have a few more games, over the next 14 months, in Cup competitions, but would then move to Croydon, to become a shipping clerk with the Union Steam Ship Company. In 1904, he took a ship to Cape Town, but he soon returned to Southampton, where he worked as an insurance inspector. In 1918, he moved to a position in Egypt, where he died two years later
