The son of Albanian parents, Armando Broja arrived at Southampton having just spent a year playing in the Eredivisie. Although already a full Albanian international, he had yet to break into the first team of his parent, club, Chelsea but was regarded by the Southampton management as being ready for the hurly burly of the Premier League. They were not wrong or at least not at first. Given his debut in the League Cup-tie at Newport he scored a couple in the 8-0 rout and then became the first Albanian to score in the English top flight when he netted for Saints vs Leeds in the October. He was a pacy, physical, hard running forward who quickly endeared himself to the crowd with his ebullience. As autumn turned into winter his reputation grew and there were calls for the club to make the transfer permanent in the January window.

Whether or not they tried is unknown but, after the 9th of February when he scored away to Spurs (see below), the goals dried up with just one more vs West Ham in the Cup. The club had now started a horrendous slump and Broja was just one of many who struggled to find his early season form. Even so there was still calls in the summer for Saints to make a permanent move for him, but his price had risen, other clubs were sniffing around and Chelsea duly gave him a six-year contract extension along with a promise to give him a chance in their first XI. His 2022-23 season was ruined by an ACL season and then despite featuring regularly in Mauricio Pochettino first team in the first part of the 2023-24 season he was allowed to move across west London to join Fulham on loan in the January transfer window.
