At the time of his first-team debut, Andy Robinson was billed on the club’s website as being

“a strong presence in the heart of midfield.”

Having been with the Saints since the age of eight, Andy’s progress from the same scholarship group as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sam Hoskins was hampered by a hip injury during his first season as a scholar. 

Having bounced back to captain the U-18 side, he eventually got his senior opportunity (see scrapbook section), shortly before his 20th birthday, coming on during a Capital One Cup-tie for Jack Cork, a player whom Andy resembles, in that he is

“unafraid of a challenge and is equipped,”

as the website puts it, “with a stylish variety of passing.” His prospects were again put on hold, however, when a knee problem ended his season prematurely and he then made a left-field move to Bolton after a loan period. That did not go well with his contract cancelled after a few months because of “a failure to settle in the area”. Since then Andy has played safe by staying very much near the south coast, albeit non-League.
