Having played for four clubs in Poland and been on loan in Germany, Kamil Kosowski’s decision to join Southampton on loan was influenced by the presence at St Mary’s of Tomasz Hajto, a long-time friend and fellow-Poland international.

Hajto welcomed the arrival of his former Gornik Zabrze team-mate, whom he considered

“a fine player, good on the ball. He delivers well to the forwards and Southampton will be a better football team with him in it.”

Kamil, indeed a skilful player, had featured, in Poland’s midfield, in the World Cup qualifier v England, a year earlier. Any chance of a permanent move to Southampton was lost, however, when manager Redknapp jumped ship. After five seasons in southern Europe, Kamil returned to his homeland and in 2019 was working with a Polish Sports channel.
