When Bill Wiggins made his Southampton debut in the forward line against Southend United in October 1912, it was his first competitive game of the season.
The Echo sympathised that he was “not in the correct condition to be at his best.”
But he would never get the chance to demonstrate his best in the Saints’ first team. Instead, he returned to Eastleigh Athletic, where he showed what he could do, with four goals in his first game back. Away from football, Bill was a cashier with the Wilts and Dorset Bank.
