A product of the club’s youth policy, Wayne Pratt captained Southampton’s Reserves in the 1980-81 season and recalls doing so when there were England and Yugoslav internationals in the team.

He got to play for the first team in the first part of that season, overseas friendlies in Hamburg, Israel and Morocco, but his only competitive appearance for them – standing in for the injured Steve Williams at No.4 – came four days before his Moroccan trip. Debutant Reuben Agboola replaced him, the following Saturday, when the Saints drew 1-1 at Old Trafford. Wayne was not retained at the end of that season.

Despite trials with League clubs, his career became a non-league trail, with a Swedish summer thrown in. He remained involved in local grassroots football, as a director of Sarisbury Sparks, a Tyro League team, while working in the building trade and living in Locks Heath.
