A product of the famous Auxerre youth academy, “Dany” N’Guessan signed for Glasgow Rangers a month shy of his 18th birthday, but never got past being an unused substitute. It took a loan switch to Boston and then a permanent move to Lincoln for him fully to find his feet before Leicester gave him a taste of Championship football.
Superfluous to the newly arrived Sven-Goran Eriksson’s plans, Dany came to Southampton, in the January 2011 transfer window, on a six-month loan.
A powerful pacey forward, he promptly came on as a substitute for the Fourth Round FA Cup-tie v Manchester United. But the team powered to promotion from League One without any significant input from him.
Having joined Millwall in August 2011, Dany had an interesting 2012-13 season with them, as they narrowly avoided relegation from the Championship, but reached the FA Cup semi-final. He featured in every round of that Cup-run, bar the semi-final. Then, come the summer, he moved to League One Swindon. Inconsistency was one reason he always seemed to be released from all his subsequent clubs before his contract had expired. He retired in 2018.
