Forward Robert Gilchrist spent only two months with St Mary’s, during which he featured, in two different forward positions, in two FA Cup-ties. He never settled, however, in a struggling side, whose 4-1 Cup-win over Newbury was their only win in a run of eight Cup, and friendly, games. He departed soon after Maidenhead’s 4-0 win in what was his second, and last, competitive appearance. Unfortunately nothing more is known about him and

he remains the only Saints player whose birth and death dates are a complete mystery.
