Having joined Barnet’s academy as a 12-year-old Ronnie Edwards arrived at St Mary’s via Peterborough with whom he won League One’s Player-of-the Season, an accolade that no doubt contributed to Southampton deciding to invest a fee estimated to be around the £3m mark. His arrival coincided with Saints return to the Premier League and with the club immediately out of their depth it was little wonder Ronnie struggled to assert himself in the heart of a struggling defence. Loaned to QPR he found his form again and impressed which made it unsurprising when he moved to Loftus Rd on a permanent basis the following year.
