Not many full-backs score on their home debuts but Jake Vokins managed it with his goal against Huddersfield in the FA Cup. The BBC website describes it thus “he broke down the left before unleashing an unstoppable shot which took deflections off Danny Simpson and the crossbar on the way in”.

He had joined the academy as a left winger, initially, but by the time he was a teenager he had dropped back to defence. He was diminutive, but quick although soon after his debut the then manager Ralph Hasenhuttl said he needed to work more on his one-to-one duels. He played some top-flight football in Scotland but some niggling injuries hampered his progress and Southampton decided against extending his contract when it expired in the summer of 2024. He did not move far, joining Eastleigh permanently that same summer.
