Romain Perraud is one of those players who did nothing wrong in his three seasons with the club but for some reason he never managed to establish himself despite making 29 Premier League appearances as a left-back during 2022-23. That was the season Saints got relegated so that summer he became a victim of belt tightening as the club went about lowering their wage bill and he was loaned out to one of his original clubs in France. He was a nippy, some would say marauding wing back, who liked to drive forward with the ball at his feet but once Russell Martin brought in Ryan Manning he knew his days at St Mary’s were numbered.
