Although South African born, Kegs Chauke arrived at St Mary’s from the slightly less exotic Thatcham Town and, 12 months after signing a professional contract, was given a starting midfield role in the FA Cup clash with Shrewsbury. Unfortunately he did not kick on from there and 2022-23 saw him at Exeter City on loan. In the ensuing close season, aged 20, he signed permanently for Burton Albion then of League One and their manager, Dino Maamria said at the time, “he’s a dynamic midfielder who is technically very good”.
