Recommended to Saints by a keen supporter living in Kent, Frank Everist was a splendid runner, who had won over 40 prizes on the track. His speed alone was sufficient for him to distinguish himself in the Reserves but, whenever he moved up to the first team, his athletic abilities were never enough for Frank to establish himself. During his one-year stint at The Dell, his contract included responsibility for the maintenance of the ground. Yet that did not prevent him from following a number of team-mates to Croydon Common in 1907. Returning to his home-town team in 1911, Frank became a labourer in the local gasworks.
