Although Dorset-born, Frederick Bird arrived at The Dell from non-league football in Northants in December 1907. He featured regularly at centre-half for the Reserves, making but three appearances in the first team, before returning, at the end of the season, to rejoin Rushden and to be an engineer in the shoe industry.
